The Shield of Immunity for Every Child
Immunization is humanity's most proven public health achievement. Following a timely vaccination schedule protects newborns and young children from life-threatening infectious diseases like polio, measles, pertussis, and pneumococcal pneumonia.
Core Milestones in the IAP Schedule
Birth to 6 Weeks
- BCG: Protects against disseminated childhood tuberculosis.
- Hepatitis B (Birth Dose): Prevents vertical mother-to-infant transmission.
- Oral Polio Vaccine (OPV 0): Initial mucosal gastrointestinal priming.
Primary Infant Series (6, 10, 14 Weeks)
- Pentavalent Vaccine: Combines Diphtheria, Tetanus, Pertussis, Hepatitis B, and Haemophilus influenzae type b.
- Rotavirus Vaccine: Oral drops preventing severe viral diarrhea and dehydration.
- Pneumococcal Conjugate Vaccine (PCV): Guards against severe pediatric pneumonia and meningitis.
"A scheduled vaccination visit is also a comprehensive developmental milestone check. Never skip pediatric appointments."
Post-Vaccination Care Checklist
- Mild low-grade fever (up to 100.5°F) is a normal sign of immune activation.
- Apply a cold compress over the injection site if swelling occurs.
- Keep the baby well-hydrated with breast milk or formula.
- Administer paracetamol drops strictly according to the pediatrician's dosage weight chart.
